Mark Macarro’s Contributions to Tribal Gaming
Mark Macarro is the Tribal Chairman of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians. He earned a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of California Santa Barbara. During his leadership tenure, Mark Macarro has represented the Pechanga Band in national Native American organizations and supported tribal self-determination and economic development.
Mr. Macarro's involvement in tribal gaming has centered on representing tribal interests and participating in organizations that shape gaming policy. He was a member of the board of directors of the National Indian Gaming Association, representing the Pacific Region. He also served at the National Congress of American Indians as Alternate Area Vice President for the Pacific Region, representing tribal interests on a broader national stage.
His contributions to tribal gaming were recognized in 2008 when he received the Pathbreaker Award at the 20th Annual Indian Gaming Regulatory Act Symposium. The recognition reflected his role within the tribal gaming community and his participation in advancing issues related to tribal economic development. Capital Weekly recognized Mr. Macarro's political influence by including him among California's top political movers and shakers.
